Haitian relief thoughout 2010 (updated)

In response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Putumayo is re-releasing French Caribbean and our children’s CD Caribbean Playground and will be donating 100% of our proceeds from the sale of each CD to the Red Cross for Haitian relief throughout 2010.
In 1976, I had the extraordinary experience of visiting this unique country and became a fan of its music, art and people. As a resident of New Orleans, I’ve witnessed how a city can come back from virtual ruin. Haiti will rise again! Dan Storper, Founder/CEO

ljubav haitiu, iii, vrlo sam pomoci na bilo koji nacin,a pokusavam da nekako dodjem do tamo
An honorable and inspiring act. I only wish more corporations would follow your noble example. Have posted to my FB page.
May you always be blessed. Thank you for inspiring me.
Beautiful. I love the idea of balancing images of devastation with sounds of hope from the CD. i also posted this on the Facebook page for Growing Up Global.
Internal Revenue Service records show the Wyclef Jean Foundation has a lackluster history of accounting for its finances, and that the organization has paid the performer and his business partner at least $410,000 for rent, production services, and Jean’s appearance at a benefit concert. Though the Wyclef Jean Foundation, which does business as Yele Haiti Foundation, was incorporated 12 years ago–and has been active since that time–the group only first filed tax returns in August 2009.

Well done, but you might want to give this Yele a second look. Check this:

Thank you everyone for the information regarding Yéle Haiti. We have decided to donate 100% of our proceeds from the sale of each French Caribbean CD to the Red Cross as a precaution.

Mika’s “Bél Fanm” from “The Carribean” CD is a true inspiration to me. In its way, it is iconic. I cannot hear it now and not wonder about the woman who inspired the song… is she alive? Is she safe?
I will perform a dance I choreographed for this special song next week at a large ZUMBA fundraiser in support of the RED CROSS HAITIAN RELIEF. I will introduce the song, but would deeply appreciate it if you could somehow find out about the true “bél fanm” from Mika — the woman behind the song — her name perhaps, her fate?
It is hard for me to dance to this song not and not cry for Haiti. And still, sometimes, I feel myself filled with the spirit of all the beautiful women of Haiti, the souls of those who just left us, the courage of those who remain. I dance to celebrate all of them… each a ‘bél fanm.’
Thanks to Mika for the song. Thanks to Putumayo for contributing to the Haitian relief. I hope you can give me hope. Please email me if you can. Thank you.
SI HAY ALGUNA MANERA DE AYUDAR HAY QUE APROVECHARLA Y QUE MEJOR, FELICIDADES POR ESTA ACTITUD Y NO CEGARNOS ANTE EL DOLOR AJENO.
FELICIDADES POR ESTA ACTITUD, NO HAY QUE CEGARSE ANTE EL SUFRIMIENTO AJENO, APOYEMOS ADQUIRIENDO EL CD.
I bought this CD from Borders last year so it’s still available. It’s a wonderful listen!
we would like to recommend buying the French Caribbean CD on our website, but it seems that it is currently unavailable in stores around our area (hannover, germany). store owners we contacted who carry putumayo don’t even know of the red cross donation. can somebody let us know how putumayo is advertising this to their retailers (in germany)? when will the cd be available again? (apart from ordering it directly?)
THANKS!
Mukucity.com,
Thank you so much for helping us spread the word and highlighting French Caribbean on your blog, we truly appreciate your support. In answer to your question, we just started shipping the French Caribbean CDs & displays last Friday, so by the end of this week, hopefully most shops are stocked up in and around your area. I included shops that are in the ‘neighbourhood’ that have already ordered CDs, and are taking part in the Red Cross donation. Let us know if you have any further questions at all, and thank you again for your support!

Always been a big fan or your compilations. Kudos to you for your support!
That’s a great idea! I’ve been looking for this album for 3 years and I haven’t found it yet. Besides helping to the people from Haiti, we will enjoy great songs.
But I have a question: Is this CD will be re-released in Mexico? I hope.
Regards!
I bought the CD in London a while back and a few days ago, without knowing of your initiative, I decided to feature it on my blog. Only when I was about to publish the post and looked up the net for your website to attribute the credits I was pleased to find out about this fundraising for Haiti you’re doing with it.
Our thoughts are with the suffering people of Haiti and its artists.
All the best!
I remember when I first discovered the Putamayo series many years ago and how excited I was with their Caribbeans album which also features some great French Caribbean songs, I’m hoping that Putamayo will look at some of the newer developments in French Caribbean Music (konpa, zouk, zouk love, Zouk rnB ect….)and also the African Zouk developments. and the related Kizomba and Cabo Love music from the Palop countries in the future. this would be a wonderful welcome.
We’ve been supporting and creating awareness for this music for almost 20 years, maybe it’s time for people to know more about the music, a new album would be a fantastic way to support Haiti and other French Caribbean cultures.

A New Album featuring the latest musical developments would be most welcome, you won’t find anyone that doesn’t love French Caribbean Music.
I really would like to buy the album! Is there a possibility in cologne, Germany???
Best wishes,
Jenny
