Tómas R. Einarsson is an Icelandic double bassist and composer who has released more than 20 records of his own music, spanning Latin jazz, straight-ahead jazz, Nordic ballads, and jazz and poetry collaborations. He has toured extensively with his Latin group at festivals and clubs in Iceland and abroad, and was the only European artist featured on the 2007 compilation Putumayo Presents Latin Jazz. His albums Strengur (2011), Bassanótt (2013), and Bongó (2016 )were each named among the year’s best Latin jazz records by outlets in New York and Colombia.

“Havana”, which was arranged by Samúel Jón Samúelsson and directed by Sigrún Kristbjörg Jónsdóttir, is a big-band reimagining of the title track from Einarsson’s 2003 album Havana. Recorded in Cuba, the album established Einarsson as a pioneer of Latin jazz in Iceland. This version comes from Los Bomboneros y sus bombasticos spila Tómas R. Einarsson, a 2026 tribute album on which the Icelandic Latin group Los Bomboneros (“The Candy Makers”) expanded into “sus bombasticos” (“The Bombastic Ones”), an appropriate name for a 20-piece big band, to reinterpret highlights from Einarsson’s catalog. The album was recorded live in Iceland at two sold-out concerts in October 2025.
