Simon Fransquet (Belgium)
Belgian film composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Simon Fransquet has composed more than 30 original film scores for productions around the world. As a guitarist, Fransquet has developed a distinctive and highly personal style shaped by a wide range of influences, from classical and jazz to flamenco, bossa nova and music from around the world. His fascination with unusual timbres also led him to build hybrid instruments of his own, including an 8-string acoustic guitar-bass and an 18-string electric guitar-contrabass-harp. His studio in Liège, Belgium, houses a collection of more than 100 instruments from around the world, which he draws upon in his film scores and productions. He also leads the world jazz quintet Taxidi.

“Motocyclette” is an instrumental piece composed for the Moroccan film Un été à Boujad (2022), directed by Omar Mouldouira. Composed, arranged, and produced by Fransquet, who plays guitar, drums, percussion, and synth through out, the track features guest musician Karim Baggili on oud. Born in Belgium with Jordanian and Yugoslav heritage, Baggili picked up flamenco guitar in his teens and acquired his first oud on a trip to Jordan at age twenty. Baggili has blended Arabic, flamenco, and Latin American influences across a series of solo albums and film scores of his own.
