French multi-instrumentalist and composer Juliette Bourdeix, known as Youthie, has built a vibrant career blending roots reggae with global influences. Beginning trumpet at age six, she studied classical and jazz at the Conservatoire in Paris before performing for eight years with reggae/rocksteady band Natty Princess. A passionate explorer of sound, she taught herself chromatic accordion and flute while performing as a street musician. Her travels and studies led her into Balkan, Latin, Middle Eastern and Asian traditions, all of which inform her unique style. Since 2018, she has collaborated with producer Zulu Vibes and numerous dub artists, and in 2019 founded her own label, Youthie Records. Her four albums showcase her ability to fuse reggae rhythms with melodies from around the globe, earning her a place on festival and dub session stages across Europe.

The Global Celebration Balkan-meets-reggae track “Ozatura,” features Sista Clara on violin and originally appeared on Youthie’s 2024 album Gecko Tones. Youthie sings in an invented language.

“Jungle Groove,” originally from her 2019 album Nomad Skank & featured on Putumayo's Instrumental Odyssey, is a collaboration with riddim maker Macca Dread. Led by Youthie’s bright, melodic trumpet, the track rides a deep reggae groove layered with tropical and jazz-inspired flourishes. The result is an instrumental journey that blends the pulse of Jamaican roots with a kaleidoscope of world music colors.
