Lariba

Lariba

Cuba / Switzerland

The Swiss-based band Lariba blends hip-hop, Cuban son, and contemporary Latin rhythms such as salsa and timba to create a vibrant sound. The dynamic fusion of genres, combined with multilingual lyrics in Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and English, reflects the diversity of its seven members from Cuba, Switzerland, Italy, Brazil, and England. Their debut album Como lo ves (2009) showcased their unique fusion style. Their second release, Walking Pa'lante (2014) incorporated more global influences, inspired by their extensive tours across Europe.

“Merengue a Santo Domingo” offers a tribute to the Dominican Republic and its defining merengue dance style. “I want to sing a merengue to change the flavor,” they sing, “and although I come from Cuba and salsa is my heart / I offer my merengue to Santo Domingo.”
