Musician Spotlight

KeruBo

KeruBo

Kenya

Kenyan-born musician and social worker KeruBo blends African traditional music with styles such as Brazilian bossa nova, jazz, and blues. Inspired by Miriam Makeba and Nina Simone and other powerful female singers, KeruBo uses music to express her respect for and to preserve African culture and heritage while highlighting social issues affecting vulnerable minorities like women and children.

“Faraja” (Comfort), sung in Swahili, is a gentle ballad with calming lyrics for challenging times: “You will find comfort here / It is in my garden, my heart / Comfort is within yourself / You will find comfort here.”
