Jai-Jagdeesh (USA)

Jai-Jagdeesh is a singer and songwriter who grew up in California and trained in classical piano before discovering Kirtan, the Sikh devotional music tradition, which became the foundation of her work. Over more than a decade of recording, she writes and performs in a mix of Gurmukhi, English, and Sanskrit, blending Sikh devotional themes with contemporary instrumentation. She has released several albums, including I Am Thine, Of Heaven & Earth, and From the Mouth of the Guru, some of which have charted on Billboard and iTunes, and has toured through-out North and Central America, Europe, Asia, and Australasia.

“Mera Man Lochai” (My Mind Longs) is a Sikh devotional hymn, or shabad, composed by the fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Das. Jai-Jagdeesh has described the song as one that “honors longing,” written during a period of grief and change. “My mind longs for the vision of the Guru’s darshan / It cries out like the thirsty rain bird for the nectar of your name / My thirst is not quenched, and I cannot find peace / Until I receive the darshan of the beloved saint.”
