Victor Bessière is a French artist, musician, and actor from Paris. While living in the coastal city of Vitória, Brazil, north of Rio de Janeiro, Bessière met French musician and producer Jeremy Naud, who is originally from southern France and was also living in Brazil at the time. Together they founded the project JOBIM HOOD, drawing inspiration from the legacy of Antônio Carlos Jobim and the relaxed spirit of classic bossa nova. Their collaboration led to the 2023 EP Nouvelle Bossa, featuring French-language adaptations that bring a contemporary, laid-back perspective to Brazilian repertoire

“Je veux de ton eau” (I want your water) is their adaptation of the bossa nova standard “Água de Beber,” first released in 1963, with music by Antônio Carlos Jobim and lyrics by Vinicius de Moraes. Rather than translating the original text directly, Bessière wrote new French lyrics that echo the song’s central metaphor of water as emotional sustenance and a symbol of love. He sings, “I wanted to love her, but I was afraid / I ran to save my heart / After that, you know, I lost everything / Love left my life far behind / I want your water, your love.”
