HOEHN is the instrumental duo of Swiss brothers Samuel and Silvan Kuntz, whose intuitive interplay comes from a lifetime of making music together. Both began on guitar during childhood summers in the south of France, where the mistral wind and open skies left an enduring imprint on their sound. Samuel, originally trained on trumpet, approaches the guitar melodically, while Silvan experiments with timbres, alternate tunings, and percussive textures. Drawing on classical and jazz technique, the brothers craft atmospheric pieces that blend technical skill with a sense of spaciousness and flow. Their 2024 debut album, Mistral, was inspired by a road trip through Portugal’s coastal towns, its name honoring the wind they associate with their earliest musical memories. The duo’s name itself is a tribute to their great-grandfather, renowned pianist Alfred Hoehn.

“Sand,” from Mistral, distills the feeling of carefree days by the sea into two intertwining guitars. Its verses carry a grounded, playful energy, contrasting with a floating, sunlit chorus, while the chord rhythm hints at Manu Chao’s “Me Gustas Tu.” Warm and inviting, it’s a wordless love letter to summer, crafted with the intimacy only brothers can share.
