Her version of “Los Ejes de Mi Carreta” (The Axles of My Cart), a 1950s milonga by Argentine folk legend Atahualpa Yupanqui with lyrics by poet Romildo Risso, is a haunting duet with Mexican vocalist Arturo Lugo. The song opens: “Because I don’t grease the axles, they call me abandoned / If I like their sound, why would I want them greased?” With lines like “I used to have someone to think about, but not anymore,” it evokes the quiet resignation of a lonely gaucho on the pampas.
