Víík is the brainchild of Norwegian vocalist and composer Elisabeth Vik and Danish bassist Jakob Kragesand. The sextet merges traditional Nordic folk roots with elements of jazz, rock and alternative energy, reinterpreting ballads and folk melodies within a contemporary soundscape. Since their beginnings the band has developed a reputation for powerful live performances and compelling songwriting, leading to nominations for “Live Act of the Year” and “Artist of the Year” at the Danish Music Awards. They released their debut album Sagt in 2024 on the Nordic Notes label.

“Hjemme” (Home) reflects on lives not lived and the sorrow of loss. Written as a tribute to a close friend who passed away, the song was recorded simply and left unedited, capturing the intimate expression of grief and gratitude. Its lyrics evoke quiet acceptance: “For the path I never walked / For the dream that never was / For the kids we didn’t have / And for life without you / I have often been filled with doubt / And afraid of getting lost / But when the roads forked / They always led to you / When the sun sets yet again / You’re the one I see it with.”
