The Lowtimers is an Americana band rooted in the road-worn songwriting of Austin Smith and Mark Tegio, whose partnership developed over years of performing along the West Coast from San Diego to Seattle. Drawing on folk and country influences associated with artists like Doc and Merle Watson, Townes Van Zandt, and Blaze Foley, the group blends traditional sensibilities with a contemporary edge. What began as a duo has expanded into a five-piece ensemble, incorporating drums, bass, and pedal steel to deepen their sound. Their debut album Cracks reflects this evolution, capturing stories shaped by travel, experience, and a search for meaning within everyday life

“New Friends” centers on restlessness, loyalty, and the pull of familiar connection over distraction and excess. “I don’t wanna make any new friends / I don’t wanna make any new plans / Wanna roll home with you / And I don’t wanna do that ride again / I really can’t do that line again / You can’t buy my time my friends / Wanna roll home with you.”
