The Last Jimenez is the project of Texas-based singer, songwriter, and guitarist David Jimenez, who was raised in the Rio Grande Valley near the U.S.–Mexico border. Drawing on the musical diversity of that region, where country, rock, pop, and conjunto intersect, his work reflects a sense of place shaped by life between cultures. After years as a sought-after guitarist, Jimenez stepped forward as a solo artist, developing a style he describes as “resaca pop,” inspired by the unique landscapes of his hometown.

“The Ride” was featured in the soundtrack for the theatrical production Postcards from the Border, and reflects on memory, belonging, and the rhythms of life in the Rio Grande Valley. Featuring Carrie Rodriguez on harmony vocals, the song connects to her broader work exploring border culture and identity through music and storytelling. The song captures the nostalgia of simpler times and the wisdom that comes with age. “Days long gone / Still in my mind / Like leftover sun / When I close my eyes / Yes, I’m still running / But I’m not chasing this time / No pushing or shoving / Cuz I’m just loving the ride / I’m just loving the ride.”
