Safeguard Sudan’s Living Heritage (SSLH) is a project supported by the British Council Cultural Protection Fund that seeks to protect Sudan’s rich culture against the pressures of conflict and climate change, as well as to build resilience among Sudanese communities inside and outside of Sudan. Working with museums, event spaces, community groups and international NGOs, the SSLH has produced a series of exhibitions, documentaries and music videos that document Sudanese culture, lifestyle, and address topical issues facing this war-torn country. As an important maritime gateway on the Silk Road, Sudan has long been a cultural crossroads between Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and the region’s traditions reflect this history of cultural interaction.

Sudanese filmmaker Ibrahim Snoopy produced the song and music video for “Raj3een Tany” (We’ll Return Again), which features lyrics by Sudanese poet Mahmoud Al-Jayli and music by contemporary musician Niile. Exiled singers Wad Abbo, Be7a Alamin and Shamso reflect on the sorrow of being away from one’s homeland and hope for a brighter future. “O country, beloved, in your sky and air, we find our joy / At your call, we gather, never forgetting, forever waiting / In peace and safety, when we meet again, it will be paradise.”
