Solar Project is a five-piece group from Nantes, France, blending soul, Afrobeat, pop, gospel, and disco influences into what they call “pop solaire,” or solar pop. The band’s name reflects a recurring theme in their music: inner light, transformation, and the idea that everyone is born under the same sun. Their songs focus on freedom, resilience, and finding a way to rise again after hard times, built around layered arrangements and instrumental solos that keep the focus on groove. Solar Project released two EPs before their debut album, Cœur Éclair (2024), and returned in 2026 with a new EP, Live Session, recorded live and featuring a new song alongside reimagined versions of earlier tracks.

“La Parapluie” (The Umbrella) is the first single from Solar Project’s new EP, built around a distinctive lead vocal, ukulele, and warm guitar. The song celebrates friendships that grow into sisterhood, playing on French grammar by feminizing “parapluie,” normally masculine, as a tribute to women who shelter one another: “In your smile I found the answer / in your voice I found the answer.” Floriane Drune wrote the song with bandmates Brian Gouin, Tom Valin, and Simon Destor.
