New Orleans–based Sabertooth Swing brings vintage jazz spirit into the 21st century with a sound that’s as playful as it is sophisticated. Founded by guitarist and producer Romain Beauxis, the ensemble combines the spontaneity of traditional swing with modern arrangements and a deep respect for the Crescent City’s musical lineage. The group’s 2022 album Delta Bound explored the cultural and historical roots of Louisiana’s music, weaving jazz, poetry, and storytelling into a moving meditation on memory and resilience.

“Sweet Lorna,” a reimagining of a classic Jamaican instrumental originally released in 1968 by Tommy McCook & The Supersonics, highlights the band’s ability to blend New Orleans jazz with Caribbean rhythm. Anchored by a smooth horn section and a walking acoustic bass line, the track features a sparkling guest solo by French saxophonist Paul Chéenne, whose fluid phrasing evokes Kingston’s breezy rocksteady grooves, which were heavily inspired by New Orleans’ soulful swagger. With its sunlit melody and easy-swaying rhythm, “Sweet Lorna” captures the joyful meeting point of jazz and reggae—a reminder that both genres, born from resilience and celebration, share a common heritage and heartbeat.
