Rita Donte is a Cuban singer, composer, and former flamenco dancer born in Havana in 1989. She first gained professional experience as a flamenco performer before the rigid expectations of the dance world led her to focus on music. Her life journey took her from Cuba to Mexico, where she settled in San José del Cabo on the Baja peninsula. There, she immersed herself in local genres like son jarocho along with her native Cuban styles trova and bolero as well as American jazz. Under the mentorship of producer Gustavo Guerrero, Donte began composing her own material, culminating in her 2025 debut solo album Ritual on Ansonia Records. Her work reflects a deep connection to her Cuban heritage while embracing a broad Latin American musical landscape.

“Patria Querida” (Beloved Homeland) is a heartfelt tribute to Cuba that was originally recorded by Los Guaracheros de Oriente in 1960. Dedicated to Antonio Maceo and José Martí, central figures in Cuba’s fight for independence from Spain in the 19th Century, the song evokes images of mountains, songbirds, and sunlit fields: “When the sun rises on you, your soil shines…and the palm sways full of love.”
