Moacyr Luz, a celebrated samba composer from Rio de Janeiro, released his first solo album in 1988. Over the years, he has written over 100 songs, recorded by artists like Maria Bethânia, Gilberto Gil, and Beth Carvalho. Now in his 60s, Luz continues to release albums and collaborate with Brazil’s finest musicians.

In 2023, Luz and Aderne collaborated on the album Mapa das Rios, featuring the song “Meu Bem” (My Dear), where they trade lines in a tender samba: “My dear / You don't wake up to a samba before noon / Half a moon that sleeps in an empty bed / The samba is a prayer.”
