Open Road Folk Music is a collaborative project that unites musicians from across the globe to celebrate the beauty of wide-open spaces. Founded and guided by Tim Janis and Elizabeth Demmer from their homes in Big Sur, California, and Santa Fe, New Mexico, the group’s music reflects the landscapes they inhabit—the rugged California coast and the vast Southwest desert. With roots in folk traditions, their songs are shaped by a love for nature and storytelling, often blending gentle acoustic textures with themes of freedom, travel, and connection. The project also extends into dance and film, creating an immersive artistic vision that mirrors the expansiveness of the natural world.

“The Great Unknown,” written and produced by Tim Janis with guitarist John Ward, embodies the spirit of adventure and discovery. “I got you and you got me / We got plans and dreams the world has never seen / Holding on to you, you’re holding on to me / Going to far-off places, you and me / And we’ll roll, roll along / Go, go along / Making our way into the great unknown.”
