Yohann Le Ferrand Yeko & Tina

Yohann Le Ferrand Yeko & Tina

France / Mali

Born and raised in France, Yohann Le Ferrand began his musical journey at a young age, displaying an aptitude for various instruments. Since 2012, Le Ferrand has been exploring West African music, particularly from Mali, where he has played guitar for well-known artists such as Rokia Traoré, Serge Aimé Coulibaly, Inna Modja and Tiken Jah Fakoly. While his personal roots are in traditional Breton music, he has long been inspired by African-American and West African music styles. The Yeko project represents nearly a decade of immersion in the music of Mali, and is a love letter to the country and its musicians. Yeko is a series of musical portraits of different West African singers, which brings together musicians from different backgrounds recognized for their originality around his supple guitar playing. On the song “Dunia,” Le Ferrand accompanies the Malian singer Salimata “Tina” Traoré, who sings in Bambara about life and the trials that make us grow during our time on earth.
