Break Out the Crazy

Dominican Republic / USA

Break Out the Crazy is the New York-based musical duo of Chris Hierro and Katya Diaz. Their collaboration began when they were backup musicians on Spanish pop star Alejandro Sanz's 2012 tour. Dancer turned singer and songwriter Diaz was raised in an artistic family. Her father is the Puerto Rican baritone Justino Diaz, recipient of the Kennedy Center Honor and her mother is Anna Aragno a renowned prima ballerina from Italy. Diaz has danced and choreographed for Beyoncé and performed on many popular TV shows. Her husband and musical partner Hierro is of Dominican background and his father Henry Hierro was the frontman of the classic 1980’s NY Merengue band La Gran Manzana. Chris Hierro has toured with Latin stars such as Don Omar while producing hits for Sebastian Yatra, Carlos Vives and others.

“Planta” is from Break Out the Crazy's latest EP "Vision," released in 2024. It features the supple guitar work of Dominican musician Yasser Tejada. Diaz and Hierro sing "Plant your feet / Wherever you like / Where the sun shines / And you can grow / Plant where
you can bloom / Plant roots / Stand firm / Sow your seeds."
