Bïa

Bïa

Brazil / Canada

Bïa Krieger left Brazil at the age of three, when her leftist parents were forced into exile during the military dictatorship of the 1960s and 70s. She returned to Brazil in 1980 and finished university in São Paulo before moving to France. Bïa now divides her time between Paris and Montreal. She sings in Portuguese, French, Italian and English, yet Bïa’s sultry melodies and rhythmic sensibilities reflect her Brazilian roots in every note.

On “Ondas” (Waves), Bïa sings, “Before sunrise / If my canoe is seaworthy /I’ll cross the ocean / As fast as I can to meet you / I’ve been missing you so /Missing your tender love / My boat can sail itself / To the waves of your gaze.”
