Ana Caram (Brazil)
Ana Caram was born into a musical family in 1958 in São Paulo, Brazil. After earning her degree in composition and conducting, she moved to Rio de Janeiro where she met Antonio Carlos Jobim, one of the founders of the bossa nova movement. Impressed by her talent, Jobim encouraged Caram to perform overseas which led to a fateful meeting in Finland with Cuban jazz saxophonist Paquito D’Rivera. Her well-received performance with D’Rivera at Carnegie Hall resulted in a multi-album deal with New York label Chesky Records and widespread acclaim as a rising voice in contemporary Brazilian music.
