Malaka is a French sister duo composed of Sasha and Laurina Moisa, whose music blends folk, Afrobeat, soul and poetic lyricism. Drawing on their French-Caribbean heritage and experiences growing up between Guadeloupe and France, the two artists combine stripped-down arrangements with rich, intertwined vocals that explore memory, belonging and the unseen threads that tie generations together. They first gained attention with their 2022 EP Malaka Mai, and in 2024 began unveiling a new body of work under the title Mang. Their sound bridges European indie folk and the organic rhythms of the Caribbean and Africa.

Colorful, rhythmic, and mystical, “Ulo” is a song of rebirth with an Afrobeat vibe — an invitation
to embrace one’s contrasts, a smooth flirtation between introspection and connection. “You got me inspired / There’s something real deep in you / I don’t need more / Now I need us to be two.” Later, the song encourages empowerment: “Make all the fruits you carry move / Show me how strong you are / How much you can resist those who never saw you.” “Ulo,” meaning “home” in Igbo, becomes a metaphor for finding one’s inner strength.
