“Resiliência,” Portuguese for “resilience,” draws inspiration from both physics and psychology: the capacity of a material, or a person, to absorb strain and return to its original form. Written before the pandemic, the piece found unexpected resonance in the years that followed. Built around an expressive dialogue between mandolin, guitar, and viola, the music unfolds with quiet intensity, its interplay of strings mirroring the arc of resilience itself: challenge, reflection, and the gradual return to strength.
