La rivière is a Belgian vocal duo formed by singers Florence Arnold (known as Flow) and Valentine Laurance A Bini (who goes by Bini), both based in the French-speaking part of Belgium. Flow has a background in jazz, Mongolian, and klezmer singing, deepened through travels in South America and India, and performs in several other projects including a Brussels-based vocal improvisation collective. Bini, from Liège, works in the tradition of French chanson, with an approach rooted in poetry and theater. Her 2023 EP Comme une allumette (Like a Match) drew on everyday themes of hope, love, and loss with sparse acoustic arrangements. When the two met, they found an immediate connection between Bini’s lyrical storytelling and Flow’s wide-ranging vocal world, and began performing together with guitar, piano, and ukulele.

“Je te laisse le soleil” (I Leave You the Sun) is a song from la rivière’s 2025 eponymous EP in which the narrator volunteers to take on all the hardship, storms, and sadness of a relationship, leaving only beauty and good weather behind for the other. “If my heart must be sad and yours be glad / I leave you the smiles I will do the crying /
