On the song “Shaye” KO’RE sings in a mix of Nigerian Pidgin English and Yoruba. Written by Anthony Olukitibi, produced by Tayobo, mixed by Dre-Sticks, and featuring background vocals by and Shanice Lynn, the song describes a social scene in which people gather to dance, and enjoy themselves, repeating refrains “My mother’s child, let them know” (a boastful or celebratory phrase) and “Jaiye” – Yoruba meaning “enjoy life” or “live well”. “Shaye” reflects a recurring theme in Afrobeats: the pursuit of enjoyment despite everyday challenges.
