Jeffery Broussard was born near Opelousas, Louisiana, the son of Lawtell Playboys accordionist Delton Broussard. At age eight he started playing drums in his father’s band. He later co-founded Zydeco Force, helping usher in the nouveau zydeco movement, before returning to a more traditional sound with his own band, the Creole Cowboys. He received the Zydeco Music & Creole Heritage Award for “Accordionist of the Year” in 2007 and was inducted into the Zydeco Hall of Fame in 2015.

“I’m Coming Home” is a cover of a song written by Clifton Chenier, known as the “King of Zydeco.” This version blends bluesy accordion riffs with New Orleans-style piano and horns. Broussard performson accordion, frottoir, and vocals, joined by Ryan Hanseler on piano, Paul Chéenne on saxophone, Chris Butcher on trombone, Romain Beauxis on acoustic guitar, Spike Perkins on bass, and Robert Montgomery on drums. “I’m coming home / ‘CauseI feel, feel so all alone / I’m coming home / To meet my dear old mother / If you ever change your mind / About leaving, leaving me behind / Bring it on home to me.”
