Gustavo Amaral, known as Gustavito, is a Brazilian singer-songwriter from Minas Gerais who has performed across Brazil and at festivals in 18 countries, including Canada, Mexico, Italy, England, and Portugal. His guitar style draws on traditional Brazilian rhythms, and his live shows often invite audience participation through vocalization, dance, and guided meditation. Recent releases include the electroacoustic EP Mahàtupã, made with Portuguese producer Mushina, and O Destino do Clã, a collaboration with fellow Brazilian artists Nanan and Luizga that toured six Brazilian capitals as well as Portugal. He released his seventh album, Me Gusta, in 2025.

“Dona Zica,” written by André Miranda, appears on Me Gusta and asks a neighborhood letter writer to send word to a lost love in Salvador. He is concerned about a rival glimpsed in a photograph and described as having the look of a carcará, a Brazilian bird of prey. “Dona Zica, please / Write a letter to my love / And write it on tissue paper / With subtle verses for me to send to Salvador / Oh, Dona Zica, it’s been a while / Since I’ve only seen Mariquinha on postcards / Far away, making fun of my heart.”
