Goitse is a five-piece traditional Irish ensemble formed at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick. The band features Áine McGeeney (fiddle and vocals), Conal O’Kane (guitar), Colm Phelan (bodhrán), Danny Collins (piano accordion), and Alan Reid (banjo and bouzouki). Over fifteen years of touring, they have built a following for their blend of original compositions and traditional tunes, and their music was recently featured on the Apple TV series Bad Sisters. Their album Rosc (2022) includes a number of traditional songs alongside original material.

“Write Me Down” is a traditional English folk ballad also known as “Come Write Me Down” and “The Wedding Song,” most closely associated with the Copper Family of Rotting dean, Sussex, who have passed it down through generations. The song traces a courtship in which a young man declares his love, is rebuffed by a “scornful dame,” and then wins her over: “Come write me down the powers above / That first created a man to love / For I have a diamond in my eye / Where all my joy and fancy lies / Stay, oh stay, my heart is true / I will never love any man but you.”
