“Le roseau” (The Reed) is a quiet declaration of resilience in the aftermath of love. “I turned the key, I closed the curtains / I left my papers sleeping on the piano,” she begins, stepping away to rewrite herself far from home. As the image of the swaying reed becomes a metaphor for endurance, she repeats, “I’m going to count the hours in silence / While the reed sways / I’m going to hold on, I won’t come back.” Though “there’s really nowhere where the sea is calm,” the resolve remains steady, bending but not breaking, like the reed itself.
