Francisco Rodríguez Fernández, known as Fraskito, was born in Elche in 1971 to a family of Romani origin from Granada. A self-taught guitarist and singer, he has built a career as a composer and performer respected across the flamenco community, writing songs for artists including Remedios Amaya, Guadiana, and Parrita, and working as a session musician alongside Diego El Cigala, Esperanza Fernández, and Juan Habichuela. His albums range from the flamenco-pop of Mientras Camino (1998) to Leche Negra (2018), a pioneering work featuring original compositions written for a seven-string flamenco guitar.

“Isabel” appears on Camino de Agua, Fraskito’s 2025 album produced by percussionist Tino Di Geraldo, which pairs his Romani flamenco with Los Fakires, a legendary son group from Santa Clara, Cuba, alongside double bassist Yelsy Heredia. The meeting of Spanish flamenco and Cuban son gives the song an easy warmth that suits its bittersweet subject: a love for an older woman, vivid in memory but lost to time. “Twice my age / Was the woman / With whom I fell in love / I have no scars left / Not on my body, not on my hands / But my soul is sad / The memory is unforgettable.”
