“Cantiga de Pedro” is an upbeat song about the importance of raising children with love and the wisdom of their ancestors. It fuses axé and samba rhythms with contemporary rock and funk elements. The lyrics use Afro-Brazilian terms such as mandinga, a reference to protective charms or spells used in Candomblé and mentions Erês and Ibejis, childlike spirits/deities in Afro-Brazilian religions representing innocence and joy. “Grandma’s spell to bless / A mother’s affection to heal / A father’s touch to help grow.”
