Dreamers’ Circus is one of the most acclaimed ensembles in the Nordic acoustic scene, known for blending traditional folk with classical lyricism, jazz improvisation & contemporary energy. The trio features pianist and accordionist Nikolaj Busk, violinist Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen, and cittern player Ale Carr. Their backgrounds span conservatory training, folk traditions from Denmark, the Faroe Islands and Sweden, and wide-ranging compositional work. Their seven albums and extensive international touring have earned them recognition from the Danish Arts Foundation as well as a reputation for inventive arrangements and an imaginative musical vocabulary shaped by both heritage and experimentation.

“The Promenade,” composed by Carr, reflects the trio’s ability to create narrative within an instrumental form. Built around interlocking rhythms from piano and cittern and a violin line that moves fluidly between ornamented melody and understated counterpoint, the piece unfolds with a sense of forward motion suggested by its title. The trio’s characteristic blend of folk-inspired motifs, classical clarity and improvisatory ease gives the tune a spacious, walking-like structure, allowing melodic ideas to rise, expand and settle without the need for lyrics. The track exemplifies Dreamers’ Circus’s approach to “new Nordic music,” in which

traditional roots provide the foundation for open, exploratory composition.
