Doãn Hoài Nam is a self-taught, Hanoi-based composer known for exploring emotion through simplicity and nuance. Since starting his music career around 2013, he has developed a discography that fluidly blends genres, including ballads, dreampop, and rock, though he is most well-known for his gentle and dreamy songs. Nam is also adept at collaborating, skillfully integrating a singer's vocal strengths into his work. His debut album, Mộng Mơ và Lãng Quên (Dreams and Oblivion), which features the voice of Mạc Mai Sương, delves into memory and introspection, offering "emotional files," or snapshots of life's quiet, unguarded moments. Whether working solo or with artists like Mạc Mai Sương, Nam consistently creates intimate musical spaces that invite reflection.

In "Hoa" (Flower), Nam paints a delicate portrait of impermanence and renewal. Sung with tender grace by Mạc Mai Sương, the song follows a young woman walking through the morning mist, “The sky is bright, the streets are empty / The water reflects the land and sky.” As she moves through nature, she identifies with the fragile beauty of a red flower and the cycle of life it represents. “She listens to the gentle words / Not knowing tomorrow will bring decay.” Blending acoustic guitar with violin, harmonica, and ukulele, Nam creates a luminous soundscape that mirrors the song’s meditative imagery. Both wistful and serene, “Hoa” captures the quiet poetry of Vietnam’s landscape and the fleeting, tender moments that define human emotion.
