Her version of Bruce Springsteen’s “Atlantic City” retains the somber working-class narrative of the original while softening its sonic edges with her vocal purity and sensitive instrumentation. The song tells the story of a down-on-his-luck narrator who is burdened by debt and desperation but sees a glimmer of hope in heading to Atlantic City with his partner. “Well, now, everything dies, baby, that’s a fact / But maybe everything that dies someday comes back / Put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty / And meet me tonight in Atlantic City.”
