Austin Grimm (USA)

Austin Grimm is a Nashville-based singer-songwriter who grew up in the Midwest. For years he fronted the reggae-rock band Roots of a Rebellion, whose 2019 album Shapes of a Soul reached No. 1 on Billboard’s reggae chart, before returning to his folk roots as a solo artist. His solo debut, Garden of Youth, brings together that folk foundation and the island rhythms that shaped his earlier work, in songs about healing, harmony and the power of words.

“Dancing Seed” celebrates the person who is first on the dance floor at a concert, the one whose moves plant the seed and give everyone else permission to join in. Recorded in St. Louis with banjo, fiddle, upright bass and drums, the song draws on the string-band sound of American folk music, a tradition rooted in barn dances and community gatherings. Grimm admits he’s a little shy himself, but a few small steps are all it takes. “Now I understand if you’re shy / Cuz truth be told, so am I / But lately I’ve been finding my stride / Bobbing my head, moving side to side / One step here / Another step there / Next thing I know / I’ve forgotten my cares.”
