Apo Sahagian (Armenia)

Apo Sahagian is an Armenian-Jerusalemite singer-songwriter whose work bridges traditional folk heritage and contemporary expression. In his solo career, he writes original songs and reinterprets traditional music from the Armenian Highlands, while also leading the Jerusalem-Bethlehem band Apo & the Apostles, active on the Middle Eastern pop-rock scene since 2014. Dividing his time between Jerusalem and Armenia, Sahagian draws on both places as sources of inspiration, weaving themes of identity, history, and resilience into his projects. His work connects the cultural memory of his community with wider audiences through a combination of rootedness and innovation.

“El Nor” (And Anew) was written by Sahagian and produced by DerHova, with guest vocals by Lucine Mardanyan. The lyrics speak of enduring love and the persistence of memory across generations: “I have brought a love for you / Girl of Shushi, just for you / You sit and search for a dream / A dream of Shushi which remains distant.” Shushi, a city with deep cultural significance, here becomes a symbol of longing and loss. The refrain offers renewal and reconciliation: “And anew, and anew, and anew / We will unite, we will understand.”
