Amparo Sánchez (Spain/Argentina)

Spanish singer-songwriter Amparo Sánchez is best known as the creative force behind Amparanoia, a groundbreaking project that helped define mestizo music by blending rumba flamenca, reggae, Latin rhythms, and socially conscious songwriting. Originally from Andalucia and now based in Granada, Sánchez has spent decades building an international career rooted in activism and musical cross-pollination. Alongside her work with Amparanoia, her solo recordings reveal a more intimate side, foregrounding her smoky voice, acoustic textures and personal reflections while maintaining her commitment to songs that celebrate resilience, love, and human connection.

“Siempre Es Azul” (It Is Always Blue), presented here in an acoustic version, is a love song that finds light in moments of waiting and uncertainty. On this recording, Sánchez is joined by the song’s composer, Spanish guitarist and producer Willy Fuego, as well as Argentine folk singer Raly Barrionuevo. “Although the day turns gray / It is always blue when you appear / I love you my life I love you / When the sun arrives / The hours grow endless if I don’t have your warmth.”
