Nai-Jah, born Mahakwe Wadike, is a charismatic reggae artist of Franco-Nigerian heritage. His music reflects the richness of his dual cultural background, combining the rhythms of Nigeria with influences from around the world. Growing up in Lagos, one of the world's most populous cities, Nai-Jah's lyrics address pressing social and political issues such as class inequalities and corruption. Since 2011, he has performed with The Kwenu Band, an innovative group that blends reggae with Nigerian rhythms and uses the sousaphone as a bass instrument, adding a unique depth to their sound. Nai-Jah has released three albums, most recently the 2024 album Democrazy, which solidifies his influence in the European and African global music scenes.

On “Home Sweet” Nai-Jah sings in pidgin English about the nostalgia he feels for his Nigerian homeland. “I have tried and tried / And every day I long for home / That feeling when you touch home soil / Hot breeze, smell of wet grass / Thatched roof and aluminum foil / You are back home at last  / Sounds of traffic and constant horns  / The scent of plantain and roasted corn.”
