The Iguanas

Formed in New Orleans in 1989, The Iguanas blend electric blues, swamp rock, Chicano soul and Afro-Cuban grooves to create a funky and edgy sound that has earned them a devoted following at home and around the U.S. For nearly thirty years, guitarist Rod Hodges, saxophonist Joe Cabral, bassist René Coman, and drummer Doug Garrison have been exploring their polyglot vision of Latin-tinged rock and have become staples of the New Orleans live music scene in the process.

“Panama Tones / Nuevo Boogaloo” is featured on our New Orleans Mambo compilation and, like their Big Easy compatriots Los Po-Boy-Citos, they find a common connection between New Orleans and Latin cultures in the boogaloo style.
