Animal Playground
“…a lively grab bag of critter-related tracks from Australia to the Netherlands that once again showcases the world-music label’s strengths.” – Entertainment Weekly
Animal Playground is a multilingual collection of animal-themed songs from around the world. The enhanced CD also includes an original music video for the song “No More Monkeys,” produced by Putumayo and shot on location in Trinidad featuring Trinidad-born artist Asheba.
Since children of all nationalities are fascinated by animals, Putumayo found it only natural to create a collection of exceptional songs featuring animal themes and folklore from across the globe. The 13 tracks on the album will guide listeners on a journey that begins in North America and ends in Africa without skipping a beat in between. Here’s a good song to monkey around to. Children love to jump up and down like monkeys, bouncing on the bed like it’s a trampoline. If you are not careful, though, you might fall off and bump your head. So listen to what Mama and the Doctor say in this song, and don’t jump on the bed! Asheba is from Trinidad, an island in the Caribbean Sea (which also happens to be the home of the Red Howler Monkey, the White-Fronted Capuchin Monkey and lots of other, interesting animals). When Asheba was growing up, he listened to fun, Caribbean musical styles, such as calypso, soca and reggae. Asheba gives a tropical twist to this classic children’s rhyme.
